Edward Raymond Stanky (September 3, 1915 – June 6, 1999) was a second baseman and shortstop who played in Major League Baseball from 1943 to 1953 for the Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn Dodgers, Boston Braves, New York Giants, and St. Louis Cardinals. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he spent eight years in the minors before reaching the majors at age 27. Stanky was known for his exceptional plate discipline, drawing 100 or more walks in six seasons. In 1946 he batted .273 but posted a .436 on-base percentage on 137 walks, leading the National League and edging Stan Musial. He later managed in MLB through 1968.
