Eddie Waitkus (September 4, 1919 – September 16, 1972) was an American first baseman who played 11 seasons in Major League Baseball across the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, and Baltimore Orioles. The son of Lithuanian immigrants, he grew up in Boston and attended Cambridge High and Latin School and Boston College. He served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II, earning four Bronze Stars. A two-time National League All-Star (1948 and 1949), his career was interrupted by both the war and a 1941 debut that preceded it.
