Dossier

Édouard "Newsy" Lalonde (1887–1970) was a Canadian professional ice hockey forward and lacrosse player. He earned his nickname working as a printer and reporter in his youth. Lalonde played for the Montreal Canadiens in both the National Hockey Association and the NHL, and is considered one of the original "Flying Frenchmen." As player-coach, he led Montreal to their first Stanley Cup championship in 1916. His goal-scoring performance in the 1919 Stanley Cup playoffs set three NHL records that remained unbroken more than a century later. He also played for the WCHL's Saskatoon Sheiks.
