Elijah Pitts

Elijah Eugene Pitts (February 3, 1938 – July 10, 1998) was a halfback who played eleven seasons in the National Football League. Born in Mayflower, Arkansas, he attended Pine Street High School in Conway before playing college football at Philander Smith College in Little Rock. The Green Bay Packers selected him in the 13th round of the 1961 NFL draft, 180th overall; he declined a higher offer from the Boston Patriots to sign with Green Bay, where he spent ten of his eleven professional seasons. He also played briefly for the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints before transitioning to a coaching career spanning more than two decades, including a stint as assistant head coach of the Buffalo Bills.
