Emil John "Dutch" Leonard was an American right-handed knuckleball pitcher who played 20 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1933 to 1953. Born in Auburn, Illinois, in 1909, he pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1933–1936), Washington Senators (1938–1946), Philadelphia Phillies (1947–1948) and Chicago Cubs (1949–1953). He was selected to five All-Star teams, in 1940, 1943, 1944, 1945 and 1951. His most successful season came in 1939, when he led the American League with 20 wins against 8 losses. In 1945 he was part of a Washington Senators rotation noted for consisting of four knuckleball pitchers, alongside Mickey Haefner, Johnny Niggeling and Roger Wolff. Over his career Leonard compiled a record of 191 wins and 181 losses with a 3.25 earned run average across 3,218 1/3 innings pitched. He died in 1983.
