Ernie Broglio

Dossier

Ernie Broglio (August 27, 1935 – July 16, 2019) was a right-handed pitcher who played in Major League Baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs from 1959 to 1966. Born in Berkeley, California, he led the National League in wins with 21 in 1960 and won 18 games for the Cardinals in 1963. Broglio is most widely remembered as the principal piece returned to Chicago in the June 1964 trade that sent outfielder Lou Brock to St. Louis — a deal that proved heavily favorable to the Cardinals. He died on July 16, 2019.
