Ewell Blackwell

Dossier
Ewell Blackwell (1922–1996) was a right-handed starting pitcher who spent the bulk of his Major League Baseball career with the Cincinnati Reds (1942; 1946–52), later appearing with the New York Yankees (1952–53) and Kansas City Athletics (1955). Standing 6-foot-6 and throwing from a sidearm, snap delivery that earned him the nickname "The Whip," he was selected to six consecutive All-Star Games from 1946 through 1951. On June 18, 1947, he threw a no-hitter against the Boston Braves, then took a second consecutive no-hitter into the ninth inning of his next start before Eddie Stanky broke it up. He finished with an 82–78 career record and 839 strikeouts.
