Dossier

M. Roy "Slab" Jackson (1876–1944) was a fullback who played college football and baseball at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with a degree in dentistry. He joined the Duquesne Country and Athletic Club, where he served as captain and coach from 1898 to 1900, and scored 14 touchdowns — often on short plunges after teammates set up the ball near the goal line. In 1898 he played for Duquesne against the Western Pennsylvania All-Stars in the first professional football all-star game. He also served as the sixth head coach of the Pittsburgh Panthers in 1900.
