Dossier
Francis Michael "King" Clancy (February 25, 1902 – November 8, 1986) was a Canadian defenseman who played 16 seasons in the NHL for the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs. One of the smaller defensemen of his era, he was known for his speed and physical play. Clancy was a member of three Stanley Cup championship teams, including Ottawa's wins in 1923 and 1927, and earned All-Star honours during his career. He retired in 1937 and spent 11 seasons as an NHL referee before joining the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, where he served as coach and executive until his death in 1986.
