Frank Rigney
Dossier
Frank Rigney (April 9, 1936 – June 29, 2010) was an offensive tackle in the Canadian Football League who spent his entire ten-year career with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1958 to 1967. He played college football at the University of Iowa alongside quarterback Ken Ploen. During his tenure in Winnipeg, the Blue Bombers won four Grey Cup championships in 1958, 1959, 1961, and 1962. Remarkably durable despite playing a physical position, Rigney missed only five games across a decade before retiring due to back injuries. After football, he worked in broadcasting as a colour commentator for CBC and CTV, covering events including the 1980 and 1984 Winter Olympics.
