Fred Bruney (December 30, 1931 – January 22, 2016) was an American football player and coach. A halfback at Ohio State from 1950 to 1952, Bruney was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 1952 and recorded 17 career interceptions, second in school history. Drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 1953 NFL Draft, he went on to play for the San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Los Angeles Rams before joining the Boston Patriots of the AFL in 1960. He earned two AFL All-Star selections during his three seasons in Boston. Bruney later served as interim head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles for the final game of the 1985 season.
