Carl Frederick Rudolf (known as Fred Merkle) (December 20, 1888 – March 2, 1956) was born in Watertown, Wisconsin. His professional career ran from 1907 through 1926, placing him squarely in the deadball era, and he is most closely identified with the New York Giants of the NL.
