Alfred Thomas "Fred" Payne (September 2, 1880 – January 16, 1954) was born in Camden, New York. His professional career ran from 1906 through 1911, placing him squarely in the deadball era, and he is most closely identified with the Chicago White Sox of the AL. After his major-league days ended in 1911, he continued in professional ball through 1917. He was listed at 5'10" and 162 pounds. He batted and threw right-handed. For collectors, his most recognized appearance is in the iconic T206 White Border tobacco set issued 1909-11 by the American Tobacco Company. He died on January 16, 1954 in Camden, New York and was interred at Mexico Village Cemetery in Mexico, New York.
