Frederick John Scherman, Jr. (born July 25, 1944, in Dayton, Ohio) was a left-handed relief pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1969 to 1976. He spent the bulk of his career with the Detroit Tigers, compiling a career record of 33–26 with a 3.66 ERA, 39 saves, and 297 strikeouts across eight seasons. His standout year came in 1971, when he set a Detroit Tigers record with 69 pitching appearances, finishing 11–6 with a 2.71 ERA and 20 saves. He later pitched for the Houston Astros and Montreal Expos before concluding his professional career in the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system and in Japan in 1978.
