Gene Handley

Eugene Louis Handley (November 25, 1914 – April 12, 2009) was an American professional baseball utility infielder and later a scout. Born in Kennett, Missouri, he played professionally from 1935 to 1942 and 1944 to 1954, with two of those seasons spent in Major League Baseball for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1946 and 1947. He batted and threw right-handed, stood 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighed 165 pounds. In 125 major league games — 85 at second base, 14 at third base, and two at shortstop — Handley batted .252 with 86 hits, 10 doubles, six triples, 41 runs, 29 runs batted in, and nine stolen bases. He was the younger brother of major leaguer Lee Handley and attended Bradley University. His major league time fell in the immediate postwar American League. He lived to age 94.
