Dossier
Eugene Richard Michael (June 2, 1938 – September 7, 2017), known as "Stick," was a shortstop who appeared in 973 major league games between 1966 and 1975. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers, Detroit Tigers, and New York Yankees, anchoring New York's infield for seven seasons. A Kent State University alumnus, Michael was a light hitter but regarded as a quick, smooth defensive player. After his playing career he managed the Yankees and Chicago Cubs and served as Yankees general manager, where he is credited with rebuilding the club that became a dynasty in the late 1990s.
