Gene Oliver

Dossier
Eugene George Oliver (March 22, 1935 – March 3, 2007) was a right-handed catcher, first baseman, and outfielder from Moline, Illinois who appeared in 786 major league games between 1959 and 1969. He split his career across six clubs: the St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox, and Chicago Cubs. Standing 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, Oliver originally drew interest from the Detroit Tigers before a high school football injury ended those negotiations; he subsequently attended Northwestern University on a baseball scholarship before signing professionally.
