Geo. Vezina

Dossier
Georges Vézina (January 21, 1887 – March 27, 1926) was a Canadian ice hockey goaltender who played seven seasons in the National Hockey Association and nine in the National Hockey League, all with the Montreal Canadiens. From joining the Canadiens in 1910 until his forced retirement in 1925, he never missed a game nor allowed a substitute, playing 328 consecutive regular-season games and 39 playoff games. He helped Montreal win the Stanley Cup in 1916 and 1924 and reached the final three more times. Nicknamed the "Chicoutimi Cucumber" for his composure, he allowed the fewest goals in his league seven times. Diagnosed with tuberculosis, he died in 1926. The Canadiens' owners donated the Vezina Trophy to the NHL in his honour, awarded to the goaltender allowing the fewest goals in the regular season.
