George Dauss

Dossier

George August "Hooks" Dauss (1889–1963) was a right-handed pitcher who spent his entire 15-season major league career with the Detroit Tigers from 1912 to 1926. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, he earned the nickname "Hooks" for a curveball that batters found difficult to hit. Dauss posted three standout seasons — 24–13 in 1915, 21–9 in 1919, and 21–13 in 1923 — and finished with a career record of 223–182 and a 3.30 ERA. His 223 wins remain the most by any pitcher in Tigers franchise history, making him one of only 14 pitchers to reach 200 wins all with a single team.
