George Hainsworth
Dossier
George Henry Hainsworth (June 26, 1893 – October 9, 1950) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played in the National Hockey League for the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, and in the Western Canada Hockey League for the Saskatoon Crescents. Born in the Kew Beach area of Toronto, he was the son of John Hainsworth and Mary James, both natives of England. The family moved to Berlin, Ontario, where his father worked as a water commissioner for many years, having previously been a plumber in Toronto, and where he owned a plumbing retail business, Hainsworth Plumbing. Hainsworth began in junior hockey with the Berlin Union Jacks before advancing to senior hockey with the Berlin City Seniors and the Kitchener Greenshirts, winning the Allan Cup as a senior amateur. After his playing days ended, he returned to Berlin, by then renamed Kitchener, with his wife Alma and son Bill. Bill also played goaltender, appearing in the Ontario Hockey Association as a junior and later a senior player, though never as a professional. Hainsworth was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
