George Clyde Kell (August 23, 1922 – March 24, 2009) played third base in Major League Baseball from 1943 to 1957, appearing for the Philadelphia Athletics, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, and Baltimore Orioles. A ten-time All-Star, Kell was a consistent contact hitter who batted .306 for his career, reached .300 or higher in nine seasons, and won the American League batting championship in 1949. He led AL third basemen in fielding percentage seven times. Kell attended Arkansas State and later spent 37 years as a Detroit Tigers television broadcaster. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.
