George Hartley McQuinn (1910-1978) was an American first baseman who played in Major League Baseball from 1936 to 1948. Born in Arlington, Virginia, he played for the Cincinnati Reds in 1936, the St. Louis Browns from 1938 to 1945, the Philadelphia Athletics in 1946, and the New York Yankees in 1947 and 1948. McQuinn was a member of the 1944 St. Louis Browns, the only Browns team to win an American League pennant, and of the 1947 New York Yankees, who won the World Series. A left-handed batter and thrower, he was selected to seven All-Star teams over his career. He compiled a .276 batting average with 135 home runs and 794 runs batted in across 1,550 games, and recorded a .992 career fielding percentage, playing every major league inning of his career at first base. After retiring he managed in the Boston/Milwaukee Braves farm system and scouted for the Washington Senators and Montreal Expos. He was inducted into the Arlington Sports Hall of Fame in 1958 and the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 1978.
