George Metkovich

George Michael Metkovich (1920-1995), nicknamed "Catfish," was an outfielder and first baseman in Major League Baseball who batted and threw left-handed. Over ten seasons he played for the Boston Red Sox (1943-1946), Cleveland Indians (1947), Chicago White Sox (1949), Pittsburgh Pirates (1951-1953), Chicago Cubs (1953), and Milwaukee Braves (1954). He was a semi-regular right fielder on the Red Sox team that won the 1946 American League pennant and appeared as a pinch hitter in the 1946 World Series. His career batting line was a .261 average with 934 hits, 47 home runs, and 373 runs batted in over 1,055 games. He later managed in the Pacific Coast League.
