George Edward Thomas Jr. (born November 29, 1937, Minneapolis, Minnesota) was a right-handed outfielder who spent 13 seasons in Major League Baseball with the Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Angels, Boston Red Sox, and Minnesota Twins between 1957 and 1971. A versatile defender, he appeared at every position except pitcher during his career. Thomas signed a $25,000 bonus contract with Detroit in 1957 after one season at the University of Minnesota, where he later returned as assistant coach (1972–78) and head baseball coach (1979–81). He stood 6-foot-3 and weighed 190 pounds.
