Dossier

Harry "Peanuts" Lowrey was an outfielder, primarily a left fielder, who played in the major leagues from 1942 to 1955. He played for the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, and Philadelphia Phillies across 13 seasons, with a gap in 1944 for military service. Over 1,401 games he batted .273 with 1,177 hits, 37 home runs, and 479 runs batted in. He was selected to the All-Star Game in 1946. In the 1945 World Series with the Cubs he started all seven games and batted .310. Later in his career he became a noted pinch hitter, setting a major league record with seven consecutive pinch hits in 1952. Before baseball he had worked as a child actor in the Our Gang film comedies, and he appeared in the 1952 film The Winning Team. He earned his nickname from an uncle's remark about his small stature.
