Hatsuo Kiyohara played professional baseball in Japan during the early 1950s with the Nishi Nippon Pirates, a Fukuoka-based club owned by the Nishinippon Shimbun newspaper and one of the founding members of the Central League in 1950. The Pirates played their home games at Heiwadai Stadium before merging with the Nishitetsu Clippers after a single season to form the Nishitetsu Lions of the Pacific League.
