Herman Besse was a left-handed pitcher who played in the major leagues for the Philadelphia Athletics across five seasons between 1940 and 1946, with his career interrupted by service in World War II. Over that span he compiled a record of 5 wins and 15 losses with a 6.79 earned run average and 118 strikeouts. He made his major league debut on April 19, 1940, and made his final appearance on May 22, 1946. After his baseball career he moved to Los Angeles and worked as a newspaper dealer. He was born in 1911 and died in 1972.
