Howard John Ehmke (April 24, 1894 – March 17, 1959) was a right-handed pitcher who spent 15 seasons in Major League Baseball with the Buffalo Blues, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, and Philadelphia Athletics. He finished his career with a 166–166 record and a 3.75 ERA. His best years came with Boston, where he threw a no-hitter and won 20 games in 1923. He led the American League in hit batters seven times, finishing with 137 career hit batters, ranking sixteenth all-time. At 35, he was the surprise starter for Philadelphia in Game 1 of the 1929 World Series, which he won.
