Joseph Clifton Martin (born December 13, 1936, in Axton, Virginia) was a catcher in Major League Baseball from 1959 to 1972. He attended Ridgeway High School and signed with the Chicago White Sox before the 1956 season. Martin made his major league debut on September 10, 1959, as the White Sox clinched their first American League pennant since 1919. He spent the bulk of his career in Chicago before joining the New York Mets, where he was involved in a controversial play during the 1969 World Series. He finished his playing career with the Chicago Cubs and later served as a White Sox color commentator alongside Harry Caray on WSNS television in 1975.
