Gerald Francis Coleman (September 14, 1924 – January 5, 2014) was a second baseman for the New York Yankees who spent his entire playing career with the club after graduating from Lowell High School in San Jose, California. He was named the Associated Press Rookie of the Year in 1949, led all second basemen in fielding percentage that season, and was selected as an All-Star in 1950, the same year he was named World Series Most Valuable Player. His Yankees teams appeared in seven World Series, winning five. Coleman served as a Marine Corps pilot in both World War II and the Korean War. He later managed the San Diego Padres and was awarded the Ford C. Frick Award by the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005 for his broadcasting career.
