Jerry Simmons

Jerry Wayne Simmons (born June 15, 1954) played linebacker at Fort Hays State after attending Elkhart High School and Garden City Junior College. In the 1976 season he recorded 67 stops and was recognized as a defensive leader, earning Kansas College Athletic Conference player of the week honors and a defensive player of the week citation in November 1976. He received a Central States Intercollegiate Conference honorable mention that December. As a senior, Simmons earned all-state recognition at linebacker while Fort Hays State claimed the conference title. He went on to spend 23 years as an NFL strength and conditioning coach.
