James Theodoric "The Hatchet" David was an American football defensive back who played in the National Football League for the Detroit Lions. Selected in the 22nd round of the 1952 NFL Draft out of Colorado A&M, he played eight seasons and never missed a game, appearing in 102 contests. Standing 5 feet 11 inches and weighing 178 pounds, he was known for hard tackling. David was a contributor to Lions championship teams in 1952, 1953, and 1957, recording an interception in each of those title games. He was a six-time Pro Bowl selection and recorded 36 regular-season interceptions, which rank among the most in franchise history.
