James William "Sailor" Herbert (whose surname was frequently misspelled as Herberts during his career) was a Canadian ice hockey forward who played centre and right wing. An original member of the Boston Bruins, he made his NHL debut in 1924-25, leading the team in both scoring and penalty minutes as a rookie. Over a professional NHL career running from 1924 to 1933, he played for the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Detroit Cougars, recording 83 goals and 29 assists for 112 points in 207 games. His best season came in 1925-26, when he scored 26 goals and 31 points in 36 games.
