James Robert Lynch (1945–2022) was a linebacker who played 11 seasons in the AFL and NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs. A Lima, Ohio native, Lynch attended Notre Dame, where he captained the defense of the 1966 national championship team and led the Fighting Irish in tackles in both 1965 and 1966. He was named a unanimous All-American and received the Maxwell Award as the nation's top college football player in 1966. Selected by Kansas City in the second round of the 1967 AFL/NFL draft, he played right outside linebacker alongside Willie Lanier through 1977. Lynch was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1992.
