Jim Marsalis, a cornerback born October 10, 1945, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, played nine seasons in the AFL and NFL from 1969 through 1977. He played college football at Tennessee A&I (now Tennessee State University) under coach John Merritt, earning All-American recognition from The Sporting News and Time Magazine in 1968. At the 1968 Blue-Gray All-Star Classic, he intercepted a record three passes, drawing significant professional attention. He was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 1969 NFL Draft (23rd overall) and became an immediate starter at cornerback.
