James Joseph Merritt (born December 9, 1943, in West Covina, California) was a left-handed pitcher who spent parts of his career in Major League Baseball. Originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers out of Edgewood High School, he was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 1961 first-year draft before pitching for his original club. After going 54–45 with a 3.39 ERA across four minor-league seasons, he reached the majors in 1965 and made two World Series appearances against the Dodgers that fall. In 1966 he matched an American League record by striking out seven consecutive batters against Washington on July 21.
