Jimmy McAleer

Dossier

James Robert "Loafer" McAleer (July 10, 1864 – April 29, 1931) was born in Youngstown, Ohio. He put together 19 seasons in the majors, his service running from 1889 through 1907, and the Washington Senators of the American League stand as the club he is most identified with. His full professional career, counting minor-league campaigns, ran 25 years from 1883 to 1907. He moved into the dugout as a major-league manager from 1901 to 1911. He was listed at 6'0" and 175 pounds, and he hit and threw right-handed. For collectors, his vintage cardboard footprint is anchored by an appearance in the T204 Ramly set, the survey most often consulted when his image is the target. That single-issue presence narrows the chase but also keeps demand concentrated on a known card. He was 66 years of age at the time of his death. It took him 6 years of professional ball before he reached the majors. He was roughly 25 years old at the time of his major-league debut. He died in Youngstown, Ohio. He was laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio.
