Joe DeMaestri was a right-handed shortstop who played eleven seasons in Major League Baseball from 1951 to 1961. Born in San Francisco and raised in Mill Valley, California, he broke in with the Chicago White Sox before spending the bulk of his career with the Philadelphia and Kansas City Athletics, where he appeared in 905 games. He made the American League All-Star team in 1957. A career .236 hitter, he finished with 813 hits, 49 home runs, and 281 RBI across 1,121 games. He later joined the New York Yankees. On July 8, 1955, he went six-for-six in an eleven-inning game against Detroit.
