Joseph Lavender (born February 10, 1949, in Rayville, Louisiana) was a cornerback who played ten seasons in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins. He grew up in Southern California and played college football at San Diego State from 1969 to 1972 before the Eagles selected him in the twelfth round of the 1973 NFL Draft. On September 23, 1974, Lavender scooped up a fumble at his own four-yard line against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football and returned it 96 yards for the decisive touchdown — the longest such return in Monday Night history.
