Dossier

Joseph Carl Oeschger (1892–1986) was a right-handed pitcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1914 to 1925, appearing for the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Giants, Boston Braves, and Brooklyn Robins. Born in Chicago and raised in Ferndale, California, he attended Saint Mary's College of California before beginning his professional career. Oeschger holds the MLB record for most innings pitched in a single game, completing all 26 innings of a May 1, 1920 contest against Brooklyn that was called due to darkness and ended in a tie. His game score of 153 in that outing remains the highest in MLB history.
