Joe Scarpati

Dossier
Joe Scarpati (born March 5, 1943, Brooklyn, New York) was a safety in the National Football League who played college football for NC State. After brief stints with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings following the 1963 draft, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent six seasons. In 1970, his final NFL year, he played for the New Orleans Saints and served as the holder on Tom Dempsey's 63-yard field goal, which set a new NFL record at the time. An attempted return to Philadelphia ended with a training-camp injury, and Scarpati retired shortly after.
