John Bower

Dossier

John William Bower (né Kiszkan; November 8, 1924 – December 26, 2017) was a Canadian ice hockey goaltender who spent his professional career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, winning four Stanley Cup championships. Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to a Ukrainian-Canadian family, Bower enlisted in the Canadian Army at age fifteen — lying about his age — and served as a gunner with the 2nd Canadian Division in England from 1940 to 1943 before being discharged due to rheumatoid arthritis. Nicknamed "The China Wall," he was later inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in 2017.
