John Bunting (born July 15, 1950) played linebacker at the University of North Carolina from 1969 to 1971, earning All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors and helping the Tar Heels claim their first outright ACC title in 1971. He spent eleven seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles (1972–1982), appearing in Super Bowl XV against the Oakland Raiders. He subsequently played for the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL (1983–1984) before moving into coaching, eventually serving as head coach at North Carolina from 2001 to 2006. Bunting was inducted into the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
