John Eddie Long (born August 28, 1956) is an American former professional basketball player who played shooting guard at the University of Detroit under coach Dick Vitale from 1974 to 1978. As a senior he averaged 23.3 points per game on a .525 shooting percentage. He helped lead Detroit to the 1977 NCAA Tournament, where the Titans defeated Middle Tennessee before falling to Michigan in the Sweet 16. Long finished his college career with 2,167 points, the first player in program history to surpass 2,000, and was inducted into the Detroit Mercy Titans Hall of Fame in 1993.
