Dossier

John C. Odom (January 6, 1982 – November 5, 2008) was an American minor league baseball pitcher. A right-hander out of Tallahassee Community College, he was drafted in the 44th round by the San Francisco Giants in 2003. He played for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (2004, 2006) and Augusta GreenJackets (2005) before injuries — Tommy John surgery in 2005 and a dislocated shoulder in 2007 — interrupted his career. In May 2008, while pitching in the independent Golden Baseball League, Odom was traded for ten baseball bats, earning him the nickname "Bat Man." He died of an accidental drug overdose on November 5, 2008.
