Johnny McCarthy was an American Major League Baseball first baseman who played from 1934 to 1948. He appeared for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1934-1935), New York Giants (1936-1941, 1948), and Boston Braves (1943, 1946) across 11 seasons. Over 542 games he batted .277 with 25 home runs and 209 RBI, and he recorded a .990 fielding percentage at first base. As the Giants' regular first baseman, he helped the club win the 1937 National League pennant and started all five games of the 1937 World Series against the New York Yankees. McCarthy played during the Great Depression and World War II years of the pre-integration era.
