John Michael Pesky (born John Michael Paveskovich; February 27, 1919 – August 13, 2012) was a shortstop and third baseman who played ten seasons in Major League Baseball, appearing in 1,270 games for three teams between 1942 and 1954. He missed three seasons serving in World War II. A left-handed hitter, Pesky led the American League in base hits his first three seasons, collecting over 200 hits each year, and batted .307 across 4,745 career at-bats. He was the first AL player to score six runs in a nine-inning game. He later managed the Boston Red Sox and remained associated with the organization for 61 years.
