Jon Matlack was a left-handed pitcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1971 through 1983, spending the majority of his career with the New York Mets before finishing with the Texas Rangers. Born January 19, 1950, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, he was drafted by the Mets as the fourth overall pick in the 1967 draft out of Henderson High School. A three-time All-Star, Matlack won the 1972 National League Rookie of the Year Award and was part of the Mets' 1973 National League pennant-winning club. He led the National League in shutouts in both 1974 and 1975 and ranks among the top ten Mets pitchers in wins, ERA, strikeouts, complete games, shutouts, and innings pitched. He was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 2020.
