Julián Javier was a Dominican second baseman who played 13 seasons in Major League Baseball, spending the majority of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals. A light-hitting defensive specialist nicknamed "the Phantom" by teammate Tim McCarver for his ability to elude sliding baserunners, Javier was selected to two All-Star teams and won World Series championships with St. Louis in 1964 and 1967. He closed his playing career with the Cincinnati Reds. After retiring, he founded multiple baseball leagues in the Dominican Republic, including the Gigantes del Cibao of the Dominican Winter League. He was inducted into the Cardinals Hall of Fame in 2022.
