Karl August Drews (February 22, 1920 – August 15, 1963) was a right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played from 1946 to 1949 and 1951 to 1954 for the New York Yankees, St. Louis Browns, Philadelphia Phillies, and Cincinnati Redlegs. Standing 6 feet 4 inches, he reached the majors with the Yankees and was a member of their 1947 World Series-winning team. His strongest season came with the 1952 Phillies, when he won 14 games against 15 losses with a 2.72 earned run average, finishing among the National League leaders in shutouts with five and ranking high in complete games and earned run average. Over his career he recorded 322 strikeouts. Born on Staten Island, New York, he was inducted into the Staten Island Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. He was killed at age 43 when struck by a car while attempting to flag down help after his own vehicle stalled in Florida.
